The Chilgrove Shoot

The Chilgrove Shoot

The Chilgrove Shoot offers a fine selection of pheasant and partridge, locally reared and matched to individual drives. We have over 25 drives, suitable for all levels of experience. No two drives are the same, with different locations and land topography – the natural instinct of the birds makes each and every drive a new challenge. We continually strive to improve and develop the shoot and present the highest quality driven birds in the best possible way.

The Chilgrove team will deliver the warmest welcome and hospitality to you and your guests. Within the backdrop of our shoot lodge you can enjoy fine wines, a roaring fire and top quality local ingredients cooked by our in-house chefs. If you would like to have a shooting party and stay here at Chilgrove, we would recommend The White Horse for accommodation.

The possibilities are endless and all will be catered for with the closest attention to detail. Chilgrove will be your home for the duration of your stay.

The Chilgrove Shoot Team is led by the Shoot Manager, Tom Tyrwhitt-Drake and our Head Keeper, Tom Bevins, assisted by an under-keeping team as well as many keen beaters, loaders and pickers up who all work hard to deliver a first class shoot.

Begin your day at the Shoot Lodge with a warming cup of coffee whilst you draw your pegs for the day and meet the shoot team. Head out for the morning drives with the team for the start of your day. You can choose when you would like to stop for lunch; return to the Lodge and then have afternoon tea when shooting finishes; Elevenses are out in the field and dinner at the Shoot Lodge at the end of the day. We will tailor the day to suit you. Whatever you decide, there will be an abundance of great food and drink, as well as great company and shooting.

Game shooting at Chilgrove, Sussex

Standing in the winter sunshine, contemplating the misty heights of the chalk downland above us, the woodland on the steep banks and deep clefts still clinging to the last of its multi-coloured foliage, one could be forgiven for imagining the Almighty creating this ground just for game shooting.

After a good day in the firmament, obviously, but his helpful largesse becomes more obvious once the birds lift off their flushing point and head directly for that same firmament; this is high pheasant country.
